Aston Martin certainly has some lofty ambitions in Formula 1 for the coming years, aiming for World Championship glory within the next five years.
“It is much easier to say that we will fight and win a world championship than actually to do it,” said team principal Otmar Szafnauer, as quoted by Motorsport.com.
“The two things that have to happen is one that we need a good plan for, so that we can start today and get to the championship rivals and then we have to execute. And we are now in the middle of this planning.
“The execution will definitely take time. People in F1 and other teams have said they know you have to give us three to five years to do this. And we are no different.
“For the last year we have planned a new factory with new infrastructure and a place where we can all be housed under one roof in order to expand the team. The implementation of this factory has just started in Silverstone.
“For example, we should move to a new factory towards the end of 2022. Within this factory, we need cutting edge tools that we can use to design and develop a car worth fighting for a world championship so that’s a couple of years away.
“If I have to look to the future, you know it will be in three to five years.”
Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll will be on duty for Aston Martin in the pre-season tests that begin on Friday at the Bahrain International Circuit.
