I will always lament the loss of the BWT sponsored pink Racing Point cars of the past few years, but if that superb paint job had to leave the sport, I can’t think of a better car to replace on the grid than the Aston Martin F1 -Team AMR21. The blue-green version of BRG with just one kiss from BWT-Pink is the most exquisite thing I’ve seen in my entire life. It’s so good that I might even have to cheer on Aston Martin this year, despite my known feelings for Sebastian Vettel. Even in spite of the team’s stubborn step in ditching Sergio Perez.
It has been over sixty years since Aston Martin last worked as a Formula 1 designer. The team spent the off-season developing a new aero package that complies with the 2021 rulebook (and presumably thrown the controversial brake ducts copied from Mercedes overboard) and designing the car to use the Mercedes 2020-style rear suspension is working. Certain parts, like the rear suspension, can be wholesaled from suppliers without using the team’s update tokens, so this has been the plan all along.

Racing Point team had an excellent 2020 season, scoring enough points to finish third in the championship (weren’t there the points that would have been lost due to the brake duct), scoring the team’s first win since joining sports. There is potential for the Mercedes-powered team, renamed Aston Martin, to pick up where Racing Point left off. Despite my allegations, I am sure that Vettel still has some struggles for the 2021 season, and Lance Stroll is a competent competitor despite the nepotism that prevails here.

Will the team win the championship? Will it win a race or two? If it’s lucky. Will it outperform Red Bull in the manufacturers’ standings? Probably not. McLaren? That’ll be closer, but I’ll say no. Will it beat any team on the grid in a beauty pageant? You can bet on it. It’s a nice machine.

Think back to the most beautiful Formula 1 paintwork of the last thirty years. Whatever it is, that’s better.
