Aston Martin appeals against Sebastian Vettel’s disqualification
After a few days of speculation, Aston Martin F1 has decided to pursue its appeal against Sebastian Vettel’s disqualification from second place at the Hungarian Grand Prix. In addition, the team has also requested a “right of review”. This is a slightly different process as it would reverse the stewards’ original decision, meaning Vettel would get second place back. Following the German driver’s disqualification, Aston Martin immediately confirmed its intention to appeal and gave them 96 hours to move the matter forward.
Why was Sebastian Vettel punished at the Hungarian GP?
Sebastian Vettel was disqualified from the Hungarian Grand Prix because the FIA was unable to take the required 1.0 liter fuel sample from his car. However, Aston Martin released a statement Thursday evening highlighting that their data showed that there was still enough fuel in the car. They also said they had “discovered significant new evidence” and were keen to pursue their appeal.
Aston Martin’s statement read:
“After Sebastian Vettel at the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday, 1st as stipulated in the technical regulations of the FIA Formula 1).”
“There was and is no indication that Vettel’s Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One Team AMR21 car benefited from a performance benefit from the alleged violation of the regulations or that it was deliberate.”
“Since the team data showed that there was more than 1.0 liter of fuel in the car after the race – according to the data, 1.74 liters – the team immediately reserved the right to appeal and applied for a right of review in addition to the appeal process. as a result of the discovery of significant new evidence relevant to the sanction that was not available to it at the time of the FIA commissioners’ decision. ”
