Alonso starred throughout the weekend at Silverstone as he went from 11th to fifth on the first lap of the sprint race on Saturday.
The Spaniard eventually qualified for seventh place, where he stayed for the remainder of the 52-lap Grand Prix.
“It was good, it was fun,” said Alonso after the race on Sunday. “The new format gave us the opportunity to improve our qualifying position a little from Friday. Alonso spun on his way to the grid, damaging the diffuser while tapping Daniel Ricciardo on the first lap, resulting in minor front wing damage.
