Sauber, the owner of the Alfa Romeo F1 team, appears to have extended its partnership with Ferrari until 2025. This ends the proposals that the team would work with Renault from 2022.
Despite rumors, Alfa Romeo continues contract with Ferrari
Alfa Romeo has signed a contract with Ferrari until the end of 2021. The results of the Ferrari engine were disappointing in 2020 and Renault would still be looking for a second team to supply engines, which would allow a switch from Alfa Romeo.
The otherwise well-informed Autosport.com now reports that an agreement between Sauber and Ferrari has already been reached. No official signature has been placed yet, but all indications are that this will only be a matter of time. The chassis of Sauber’s 2022 car is said to be the correct dimensions for Ferrari’s engine and transmission, suggesting an extension of the current agreement.
