Alfa Romeo is currently in eighth place in the table with just 2 points in 9 races. Although team boss Fred Vasseur has denied that the team is already looking for a different line-up for next season, Antonio Giovinazzi’s seat could be in jeopardy for 2022.

The Italian scored just one point in nine races and was outdone in the races by his experienced team-mate Kimi Raikkonen. Giovinazzi struggled to convert his good qualifying performances into solid race results.

Alfa Romeo’s second seat would be between Ilott and Schwartzman

According to British journalist Joe Saward, Formula 2 driver Robert Schwartzman and Ferrari Academy driver Callum Illot are the front runners for Gio’s seat next season.

“The second Alfa Romeo seat would be between Callum Ilott and Robert Schwartzman, two Ferrari Academy drivers,” said Saward.

“Although the brand doesn’t like to replace the only Italian driver on the grid, Stellantis wants more performance and doesn’t care about nationality at all,” said Saward.

Valtteri Bottas could also replace Kimi Raikkonen: Saward

As Soy Motor reports, Saward also stated that the Swiss team could also replace Kimi Raikkonen at the end of the season. Kimi is currently 41 years old and has not signed a contract for the next season.

And if that happens, Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas could replace Kimi if the German team drops the Finnish driver.

“Bottas will probably end up with Alfa Romeo. The team would like a named driver to replace Raikkonen and the owner of the brand welcomes to continue in the line of Finnish drivers, ”he added.
