Robert Kubica replaces Kimi Raikkonen at Alfa Romeo for the RP1 at the Hungarian Grand Prix

Alfa Romeo is ready to give reserve driver Robert Kubica another shot behind the wheel of the C39. This is the second time the Polish driver drives the car. Last week, Kubica had driven Antonio Giovinazzi’s car during the first practice session before the Styrian Grand Prix.

This time, however, Kubica will command the machines powered by Kimi Raikkonen. After a disappointing performance during last week’s free practice, in which he finished with the 18th best lap time, Kubica is hoping to do a lot better this time around.

Kubica said on the Alfa Romeo official website: “Driving one of these cars is always an amazing feeling, so I can’t wait for Friday. Emotions aside, we cannot forget the importance of car development, especially in the condensed 2020 season. “

The Polish driver also spoke about his role in the team. He said, “This team needs data and feedback, and I’m here to provide as much valuable information as possible.

“We had a productive weekend last time and my goal is to help the team take another step forward here in Hungary.”

Even the Alfa Romeo team boss, Frederic Vasseur, is looking forward to working with Kubica again this week. Vasseur said: “Robert is one of the greatest assets the team has on their side. He did a very good job in Austria last week and I’m happy to have him back in the car.

“The data he made available to our engineers has already proven to be valuable. There is still a lot to be done, however, and having three great drivers to get information from is a huge benefit. “
