The German driver recently admitted talking to teams about a possible deal for the next season. However, he did not take any names.
From today’s perspective, Hülkenberg’s best shot on an F1 return is at Alfa Romeo or Haas. Both teams have yet to confirm their respective driver lineups for next year, which gives “The Hulk” a real chance.

I spoke to Fred: Nico Hulkenberg
And judging by his recent performance at the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix, it would be inconsiderate for the teams to ignore the German as a whole.
Hülkenberg recently reported in an issue of the F1 Nation Podcast about a possible reunion with Alfa Romeo (formerly Sauber).
“Yes, yes, is the short answer,” said Hulkenberg when asked if he would accept a deal with the Swiss team.
“I mean, obviously there is a deal, there are multiple terms that encompass this type of game, and it’s always tied to the package. I’m very interested in racing in Formula 1, still love in the air, it’s my passion.
“But I’m not desperate, but I would definitely like to come back and race again. I’ve talked to Fred (Team Principal at Alfa Romeo) quite a lot over the last few months, very funny guy. “
Hulkenberg and Fred Vasseur have worked together in the past during the German’s GP2 days. In 2010, Hülkenberg won the championship for Vassuer’s GP2 team ART.
However, Alfa Romeo is no stranger to Hülkenberg either, as he drove for the team in 2013.
As exciting as a return to F1 sounds, Alfa Romeo is not having the best season this year. The team has the slowest car on the grid and often has a hard time making it after the first quarter.

Despite the mediocre package, there seems to be a fair bit of competition for a seat on the team next year.
Sergio Perez is said to have an eye on the team should his current contract with Racing Point fail. More importantly, Hulkenberg’s return depends on Kimi Raikkonen possibly leaving next year.
If the Swiss team continues to underperform, Raikkonen could be well on the way to getting out of the team.
