Robert Kubica will complete his fourth free practice session of the season at FP1 for Alfa Romeo in Bahrain. The Pole – once Grand Prix winner – takes over Kimi Räikkönen’s car for the 90-minute session.

Kubica last competed for the Swiss team in training for the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix in Silverstone in August, and further appearances this year in Styria and Hungary.

“I’m really happy to be back in the driver’s seat for the first time since August,” said the veteran of 97 Grands Prix. “It may sound like a long time, but my season was very busy with my simulator work at the factory and my DTM program, so it actually felt like it was going pretty quickly.

“Now that my DTM season is over, I would like to work full-time at Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN again: There is still a lot to struggle and I am confident that my work will make a positive contribution to the work of the team.”

Team principal Frederic Vasseur added: “We are all delighted that Robert is getting back in the car for FP1. His contribution to the team has been important so far this season and the opportunity to make the most of his experience and skills here in Bahrain will help the team continue on their current path of development. Sakhir is a track that he knows very well and that will really help our work this weekend. “

Kubica, who clinched a podium with DTM racing cars this season, has fond memories of races in Bahrain after taking the only pole position of his career in Sakhir in 2008 when he drove for BMW.

He will be joined by another guest driver in FP1, with Roy Nissany making his third FP1 appearance of the season for Williams, the 25-year-old Israeli who has performed the same duties in Spain and Italy.
