There is never a set length or deadline for the F1 driver market as transfers and communications take place all year round. The idea, however, is for the teams to confirm their line-up before the new season’s winter testing. And this year Kimi Raikkonen and Alfa Romeo play their part in next year’s movements.

Kimi Raikkonen is reportedly due to announce his intentions shortly
According to the latest report from Motorsport.com, Kimi Raikkonen will tell his team Alfa Romeo by the end of September whether he will continue in Formula 1 or not. The oldest driver on the grid has been considering retirement as an option.

Team boss Frederic Vasseur has previously admitted that he “would like to keep Kimi” and that he can race with Alfa Romeo for as long as he wants. Therefore, Raikkonen has full freedom to make his choice.

Should he choose to move on with the team, it would mean the other seat could be a switch between a variety of options. The first obviously keeps Antonio Giovinazzi for another season. However, he has not exactly impressed in his two seasons at Alfa Romeo.
The second targets one of Nico Hulkenberg or Sergio Perez, both of whom are free agents. The third option is to search for F2 and select a young talent, with Mick Schumacher leading this shortlist.

Alfa Romeo and Haas aim for dynamic combos
Kimi Raikkonen has had a glorious career. The fact that he wants to keep racing shows his urge to continue racing when he is 40. A world champion, a series race winner, and this Saturday the racing driver starts with the most Grand Prix starts – Raikkonen has done everything. Therefore, it makes sense if the “iceman” can team up with someone he can look after. In this regard, Mick Schumacher seems like the perfect choice.

The impact of Raikkonen’s future can be seen at Haas, who may be trying to replace one or both of their drivers. If Alfa Romeo doesn’t take a step for Sergio Perez, the Mexican driver would likely accept Haas’ offer if approached. But for now all eyes will be on Kimi Raikkonen and the announcement of his future.
