Michael Andretti has ended his interest in investing in Sauber, GP fans understand.

Reliable sources have indicated that the Andretti name did not make it into Formula 1 as hoped by acquiring an 80 percent stake in Islero Investments, the Swedish company based in Switzerland that runs Sauber and, in turn, the Alfa Romeo F1 team will return.

Rumors had suggested that a deal with Andretti over the United States Grand Prix weekend could only have been made if financial disparities arise, despite GPFans spotting an offer of just over $ 300 million on the table.

According to Auto Motor und Sport, Sauber owner Finn Rausing wanted an additional $ 50 million a year – paid in advance – for the next five years to ensure that Alfa Romeo could work within the budget limit in the event sponsorship difficulties arise.

The turning point in history has led Andretti to withdraw from the negotiations.

After Alfa Romeo signed Valtteri Bottas from Mercedes, IndyCar star Colton Herta was speculatively linked to the second seat as part of a deal with Andretti – although the required super license points were missing.

With the move collapsing, Alfa Romeo could now chase Alpine-backed F2 driver Guanyu Zhou, who is heavily funded.
