Alfa Romeo joins the growing list of F1 teams due to the COVID-19 crisis

Alfa Romeo is the latest Formula 1 team to take employees on leave in the coronavirus crisis.

Previously, Formula One teams McLaren, Williams, Haas and Racing Point had enlisted the help of which the British government pays most of the salaries of employees on leave during the global downtime.

And now the Swiss media newspaper Blick reports that Alfa Romeo is accessing a similar program in Switzerland for many of its 500 employees.

Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto said the Ferrari F1 team from Maranello will remain flexible about how Formula 1 goes, including the option of “short race weekends, double-header weekends whenever (the season) the races end or pack up”.

However, Binotto cautioned that his colleagues should “avoid being emotional” on other F1 economic issues, including lowering the budget cap for 2021.

“We must remember that we have different situations and it is important that we find common ground where the answer may not be a single budget cap that is the same for all teams,” he said.
