Schumacher is currently at the top of the F2 championship table with 153 points. So far this year he has reached 8 podiums, including a race win in Monza.
Although the Scuderia’s seats have been confirmed for next year (Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz), their customer teams i.e. Haas and Alfa Romeo have yet to do so. In the past few weeks there have been rumors linking Mick to Alfa Romeo for the next year, and Berger believes the move would be well confirmed.

In an interview with Motorsport-Total, Berger was asked whether Schumacher junior was ready to move up into the big league. Berger replied (translated by Google): “Yes, now.
“The discussion about Mick in Formula 1 started in 2019. In my opinion that would have been a year too early. Now is the time.
“I like it when someone orientates themselves in the first year and strives for the championship or maybe even wins in the second year.”
Gerhard Berger would choose Mick Schumacher if he were the boss of Haas or Alfa Romeo

The Austrian said: “I would take it. Mick delivered and knows through his family which hurdles you have to overcome in racing to get to the top.
“He deserves (deserves) a chance. Everyone will support the topic, also out of respect for their father. And everyone would be happy to see that Mick has a fair chance. “
Mick certainly saw the role on his second season of F2. If he won the championship, it would be a breeze to get him a place on one of Ferrari’s customer teams.
It would also make an excellent long-term investment for Ferrari. Mick was able to learn the race at the highest level with Haas / Alfa Romeo. He could then switch to the works team and become Leclerc’s long-term partner.

However, Schumacher has to face tough competition from Callum Ilott and Robert Schwartzman (fellow champions of the F2 title). And even from experienced people like Sergio Perez and Nico Hülkenberg.
A seat for 2021 may therefore not be fully guaranteed. But rest assured the German will get his shot in F1 sooner rather than later.
