Alfa Romeo - F1 Racing Team - Raikkonen, Giovinazzi

The Alfa Romeo name has Formula 1 connections that go back to the start of the championship in 1950. Fast forward to the 21st century and Italian flair combine with Swiss sensitivity in a new era for the team that was formerly known as Sauber.

Peter Sauber had considerable success in world sports cars, where he promoted the up-and-coming talents of future F1 stars Michael Schumacher and Heinz-Harald Frentzen, and led his squad of the same name into F1 in 1993.

The team has since established itself as the mainstay of the grid, becoming race winners under the brief ownership of BMW and building a well-deserved reputation for not only making competitive cars but also developing young drivers.

2020

Another season with rare highs – both cars scored points in Imola’s home race and both reached the third quarter in Turkey – ended again in eighth place overall, with Kimi Räikkönen and Antonio Giovinazzi only collecting eight points.

2019

Progress slows as the C38 proves frustratingly inconsistent, even with veteran Kimi Raikkonen at the wheel. Nevertheless, P8 remains in the overall standings, 22 of the 57 points come from the eventful penultimate race of the season in Brazil.

2018

Team boss Fred Vasseur steers his squad on a surprisingly fast upward trend. The Ferrari-powered C37 is proving increasingly competitive, especially in the hands of rookie star Charles Leclerc, who scores 39 of its 48 points – almost ten times its 2017 record overall.
