However, a recent investment in a wind tunnel and an advanced DIL simulator could bring huge benefits to the Switzerland-based company. The wind tunnel and simulator are reportedly being upgraded. This leads to additional data acquisition for vehicle development. Additionally, given the big changes in regulations in 2021, it could mean a much-needed boost for the team.
Alfa Romeo also invested in an advanced vehicle driving simulator. The AVDS uses a DIL (Driver in the Loop) system that can be used to set up the car for racing equipment and optimize performance. In addition, the system supports the driver’s preparation considerably.
Some of the key features of the AVDS platform are lower latency and precision. This results in improved accuracy and more useful data. Antonio Giovinazzi said of the system: “The aVDS offers the realism and functionality that best suits the needs of the team. While driving the AVDS, changes were made to the vehicle setup parameters that were smaller than those normally made on the real car. “
Optimistic developments
Giovinazzi added how efficient the system is in reflecting setup changes. These investments could prove helpful in getting Alfa Romeo’s campaign going again.
