Alfa Romeo F1 is officially renamed as Robert Kubica makes initial statements after joining the team

At the turn of the year, Alfa Romeo announced that they were entering into a partnership with PKN Orlen. As an added bonus, the Polish driver Robert Kubica was drafted as reserve driver for the team. The Polish veteran recently made his first public statement since being named reserve driver for Alfa Romeo for the 2020 season.

PKN Orlen would become Alfa Romeo’s official co-title sponsor, and Kubica beiing would work with Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi.

The 35-year-old returned full-time for the RoKit Williams F1 team in 2019 but had a season nightmare. After breaking up, he had to look for other travel options at the end of the year. Fortunately, the German Touring Car Masters knocked on the knock, and soon afterwards it was Alfa Romeo’s turn.

Robert Kubica talked about his move to Alfa Romeo, calling it a “comeback home” when he made his debut with the team in 2006 when it became known as BMW Sauber in 2006

What did Robert Kubica say?

“Hi everyone, it’s Robert,” he said on a social media video. “I’m here in Hinwil, a kind of comeback home where I started my Formula 1 career in 2006.”

The veteran confessed that he was happy to be back in a familiar area and to reunite with familiar faces from his days at BMW Sauber. He shared with fans that he just finished a seat assembly in the new 2020 car. In other words, he was thrilled to drive the car and work with the team he knows so well.

It is also noteworthy that the team will be renamed Alfa Romeo Racing Orlen in honor of the partnership between Alfa Romeo and PKN Orlen. Team boss Frédéric Vasseur told the media that the new partnership with PKN Orlen was “proof of the ambition of our joint project”. He also stated that the team has set itself the goal of being at the forefront of Formula 1.
