The F1 season starts this weekend
Alfa Romeo is preparing for the start of the Formula 1 season this weekend by sending its drivers around in one of the most serious road cars ever. The 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA.
Alfa pays tribute to the team’s two F1 drivers, Kimi Räikkönen and Antonio Giovinazzi, for the final record of the extreme GTA. At least in their assessment of the car’s dynamics and how they helped fine-tune it.
The street car Giulia GTA benefited from the help of the Sauber F1 team, including their prototyping and carbon fiber parts development expertise including the giant wing of the m. The standard GTA is a celebration of Alfa Romeo’s 110th anniversary with a Carbon roof, a hood, a bumper, wheel arches, a massive diffuser and a lightweight, including Lexan instead of glass. The GTAm takes the hardcore Giulia a step further by removing the rear seats and adding helmet storage, a fire extinguisher, six-point seat belts, and the gigantic carbon wing you see in the photos. GTA stands for Gran Turismo Alleggerita, Italian for light, not a fancy umbrella drink, and this year’s car pays homage to the original sports racing driver who bore the name in 1965.
To celebrate, Kimi will be wearing GTA on his overalls for the first race of the season this Sunday in Bahrain. Giovinazzi’s white and red have GTAm lettering. The Sauber Alfa Romeo C1 completed the most laps in the pre-season tests and had a driver in the top six on all three test days, which put the team on a strong footing at the start of the 2021 season.
