After the 2021 season, the current partnership between Alfa Romeo Racing and Ferrari will end. This has consequently opened the floodgates for rumors that Alfa Romeo may be looking for a new partner team.
Renault was the only option for the Sauber team. Hence, it looked pretty obvious that given the healthy relationship the two had, they were going to sign an agreement with the French manufacturers.
With McLaren’s exit as a Renault customer, the latter would also have wanted to replace the British team with Alfa Romeo in the hope of keeping the “engine supplier” label intact.
Will Ferrari and Sauber split up?
Autosport claims that Sauber and Ferrari have already struck a middle ground to extend their partnership until the end of 2025. However, the two have yet to end their talks through an official agreement.

So amid the Renault-Alfa Romeo rumors, it is reasonable to hear that Ferrari is sticking with its longstanding customers. This could be a great addition to a successful 12 year stint for the midfield team.
When it was as good as over for Sauber in 2017, Ferrari shook hands with the struggling customer team and teamed up with its sister brand Alfa Romeo. Since then, their relationships have strengthened dramatically as the alleged contract extension will further strengthen them.
Will Sauber go under the Alfa Romeo name?
The chances of Sauber going under the Alfa Romeo name have increased dramatically in the upcoming 2021 F1 season.
Their parent company, Fiat Chrysler, and the Peugeot Group initially planned to announce their merger in October 2019. However, due to the COVID-19 misery, they had to postpone it until 2020.

And after a year of waiting, the two finally announced the merger with 12 other brands on Tuesday when the two automaker giants founded a new brand, Stellantis. Ultimately, the automobile company is now the fourth largest automobile manufacturer in the world.
This could lead the Alfa Romeo F1 team to drive under a new chassis name. Autosport suggests that new name change talks will start soon.
