You have to follow the Formula 1 season in 2021. Here’s why

Max Verstappen was the closest to the two Mercedes cars this season, despite having a comparatively slow car. Alex Albon, on the other hand, did not do enough to be the team’s best option to bring in the much-needed Designer Points. There have been a few instances where he’s close to the podium, but for most of his Red Bull stint so far, he’s just not done well enough. Red Bull hasn’t yet announced who will replace Albon for 2021, but they quickly denied they could promote any of the AlphaTauri racers.

Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg are currently considered the front runners for the seat. If Max gets a teammate who can add to the scores, Red Bull Mercedes can definitely improve and put more pressure on him. The biggest challenge, however, is that Honda, Red Bull’s current engine supplier, has announced that they will be pulling out of the sport due to the move across the auto industry from ICE units. Red Bull and Scuderia AlphaTauri therefore have to find an engine supplier for the next year.

While Renault is doing well given its history, Red Bull is unlikely to choose that option. However, Renault remains the best option under the regulations as Mercedes and Ferrari already share their engines with two other teams. Another option is for Red Bull to take over the right to run the Honda engines for 2021 and continue to fund Honda in terms of engine development, etc. This alternative would require significant Red Bull engagement and approval from all parties. This could give Red Bull rights to Honda’s intellectual property and create a continuation program for its engines.

Although the exit from F1 has been confirmed, Honda has stated that the exit should be “as painless as possible”. In addition, Honda F1 Managing Director Masashi Yamamoto told The Race, “Honda is happy to speak to you if you need us in any way, not just about the engine, but other things as well. We are happy to work together to support AlphaTauri and Red Bull in any way for their program after 2021. ”

When asked if there is a limit to Honda’s willingness to help and if any potential continuation project using Honda’s technology would be stopped, Yamamoto said, “If this type of request is made by the team, I am ready to speak to Japan. I personally want to support [what Red Bull and AlphaTauri do] as much as possible. “Creating the infrastructure needed to take over the development of the Honda engine would be a significant endeavor for Red Bull.

However, it has expanded its Milton Keynes facility, has key technical resources and partners, and could use it to redistribute some staff as the incoming budget cap in 2021 will force it to downsize its racing team. With the window announcing their decisions will soon be closed, Red Bull sure has a lot on the plate.
