Toto Wolff pays tribute to Christian Horner’s “Großer Scheck” for the recruitment of five Mercedes employees for Red Bull

Horner also writes off all the comments and statements by Mercedes boss Wolff on Red Bull's growing stature in F1

Toto Wolff, the Mercedes-AMG boss, recently spoke about the engineers who switched to Christian Horner’s Red Bull. The Formula 1 world is currently being cheered by the engineers who switch from the Silver Arrows to the bulls.

In an interesting development, Red Bull recently hired five more Mercedes-AMG engineers. Of course, signing big names and big minds would cost a team a large sum, needless to say. This happened right after Ben Hodgkinson decided to move to the Austrian giants after 20 years at Silverstone.

The 49-year-old Mercedes boss said: “There’s a lot of pressure here, but also a lot of fun. We can be proud of that and we have to rely on it. There will always be a back and forth. But let’s put it this way, I understand where Christian comes from, he wants to build a structure and sometimes you have to write a big check. But that’s ok.”

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner said: “Red Bull’s mission to bring all aspects of Formula 1 operations into the house through Red Bull Powertrains is an extremely exciting, but also extremely demanding undertaking, and we know that Success only “achieved by bringing in the best and brightest talent, providing them with the right tools, and creating the right environment in which to thrive.”

Red Bull parted ways with its engine supplier Honda at the end of the season. The Milton Keynes-based team is now working on setting up its own drive division. They are also recruiting a number of top-class engineers from Mercedes and have decided to put them in charge of the Powertrains division.

Aside from Ben Hodgkinson, a few other names in the wings are Omid Mostaghimi, the Mercedes team leader for F1 electronics. Pip Clode, the team leader for the Mercedes F1 drive unit concept. Mercedes head of production Steve Blewett. Anton Mayo, head of a Mercedes engineering team, and Steve Brodie, Mercedes head of F1 track and final inspection.
