The record Verstappen could equal if he wins the US GP

The record Verstappen could equal if he wins the US GP

The second half of the 2022 season has been exemplary from Max Verstappen, winning four of the last five races since the summer break.

Over the course of the season he’s amassed 12 wins and if he takes another at the Circuit of the America’s this weekend, he will tie on the record of most wins in a season first set by Michael Schumacher in 2004 and later equalized by Sebastian Vettel in 2013

After their double podium at the Japanese Grand Prix last time out, Red Bull set the record for most 1-2’s in a season by a team at five. Verstappen hopes this form can continue for the team as they battle Ferrari for second in the Constructors’ Championship.

“It was special to secure the Drivers’ Championship in Japan, I didn’t get the chance to celebrate too much as we’re still focused on securing the Constructors’ Championship for the Team,” he said.

Verstappen: Winning both championships ‘ultimate goal’ in 2022

Verstappen goes on to say that winning both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships would be the “ultimate goal” for Red Bull, who haven’t achieved that since 2013.

He explained: “The ultimate goal is of course to win both, but we need to keep our heads down, it will come if we keep performing well.

“I’m looking forward to the remaining races. It’s great to be back in Austin, I love the city and the track. Winning here last year was amazing and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do this weekend.”

Red Bull is 165 points ahead of Ferrari, with a possible 191 points still up for grabs in the last four races including the sprint weekend at Brazil.
