Last night was an absolute storm of tears at the Insecure season finale.
After five seasons of drama, life changing growth, and fun, Issa Rae finally ended her beloved series, which portrayed the real ups and downs of black millennial friends struggling to balance love, work and friendship. The last episode was carried by Issa’s desire to “fast forward” to the part of her life where “everything is fine”. The finale covered a lot of ground and did just that. Viewers and performers alike heard on social media and shared thoughts and emotions about the impact of the show.
If you haven’t seen it before, these might contain some spoilers:
Fans witnessed the final breakup between Issa and Nathan, played by Kendrick Sampson. Issa’s leap into the future marked an unexpected reunion between her and her longtime boyfriend Lawrence (Jay Ellis). Molly, played by Yvonne Orji, eventually falters, despite the fact that their complicated relationship is a central story across all five seasons and how well it would suit Taurean (Leonard Robinson). As Molly prepared her life for sacred marriage, Issa also celebrated friendship as they once knew it, but by the end of the show, fans were quickly reassured that the bond of the beasts was impenetrable despite Molly’s life-changing moment.
After the show, the tweets were full of laughter and loads of bittersweet reactions.
A fan wrote on Twitter:
“Issa Rae started her career 10 years ago and it is far from finished. She is one of the few black women I have seen in my life with such an incredible development. For someone in my position, it was so inspiring to watch their journey. “
Another user tweeted:
“Yes, Lawrence must have a child… ..but he has a furnished house with a kitchen island and several bedrooms with a well-funded apartment. 401K …. Issa did the right thing …. we wish Nathan and his endeavors the best. “
While a third social media visitor commented:
The story goes on
“The Insecure finale really made life so beautiful and gave hope for what lies ahead. Your 30s look so beautiful. “
An emotional Issa Rae kept her final words about the series short and sweet.
“I love you all. Thanks for 5 seasons,” she tweeted.
While serial producer Prentice Penny tweeted:
“We wanted to show that love is a choice and just has to make sense to you. Every story is different. “
Yvonne Orji interfered with a sweet tidbit about this tearful exchange Molly and Issa shared in the bathroom:
It’s sad that Insecure is finally over, but I think best we will watch the series for hours and patiently wait for the next big show from Issa’s Rae. How did you like the season finale? Tell us below, and see some more reactions to the last episode below.
