Sergio Perez led the third practice session on the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit ahead of the 2021 Mexican GP. The Mexican overtook teammate Max Verstappen and reigning champion Lewis Hamilton in the home game. The Dutchman and the Briton were second and third fastest in the session.

Perez’s fastest lap was 1 minute, 17.024 seconds, two tenths of a second faster than his teammate and six and a half tenths of a second faster than Hamilton.

His pace in the session clearly showed the Red Bull Racing Team’s advantage on the Mexican circuit. His pace lead over Hamilton is the biggest advantage this season.

Williams driver Nicholas Latifi set the 19th fastest lap, followed by Haas driver Nikita Mazepin, who set the slowest lap of the entire session. Overall, the Red Bull Racing drivers seemed to have the upper hand in terms of qualifying pace for one lap, while the Mercedes looked like they were battling for grip on the soft tire compounds.

Apart from the Mercedes, Verstappen couldn’t improvise his lap in the penultimate moments of the session due to grip problems with the soft compound. That puts two tenths between the two Red Bull Racing drivers.
