After Alex Albon was deposed from the Red Bull Formula 1 team in favor of Sergio Perez, his racing future with the energy drinks company looked dubious. If there was renewed interest in the DTM series, however, a place on the starting grid opened up.
The company has unveiled the livery of Albon’s Ferrari 488, which has taken on the matte colors of Alpha Tauri. Alpha Tauri itself is a new clothing brand from Red Bull, better known as the new incarnation of Red Bull’s Junior Toro Rosso F1 team.

Nick Cassidy shares driving duties with Albon in the German Touring Car Championship, as Albon continues to be the official test and reserve driver for the Red Bull Racing F1 team. The other Red Bull Ferrari is driven by 18-year-old New Zealander Liam Lawson.
The DTM series is entering a new era in 2021. The transition to GT3-based vehicles is intended to arouse the interest of manufacturers. In addition to the AF Corsa contribution sponsored by Red Bull, fans of the series can look forward to GT3 vehicles from Audi, Mercedes and McLaren.

All eyes will be on Albon when he retires after a rather lackluster year in F1. Despite showing early promise after a mid-season shock switch to partner Max Verstappen in 2019, Albon’s failure to meet his teammate last year resulted in him losing his seat to Perez in 2021.
Former F1 drivers have often found happy homes in the DTM series. Albon fans will hope that the less stressful environment will produce results for the Thai-British racing driver who is undoubtedly aiming for a return to the height of motorsport.
