Red Bull continues to question Mercedes profits

Red Bull is concerned about Mercedes’ inexplicable increase in straight-ahead speed since the British Grand Prix. To this end, the team continues to question the FIA, according to Michael Schmidt of Auto Motor und Sport, who wrote:

“According to measurements by the World Championship runner-up, Mercedes has mobilized significantly more power since Silverstone, especially when accelerating. On the straights in Turkey, the Silver Arrows with the DRS closed were faster than Red Bull with the open) Team boss Christian Horner can only explain this power surge by the fact that the rival has found power somewhere and somehow. It is believed that Brixworth fishes in gray areas. “

He added that although an initial query to the FIA received a negative response, Red Bull is still “floating” on the issue and “further suspicions are being investigated”.

Despite Red Bull’s questioning, Mercedes remains stoic with its stance

For their part, Mercedes has claimed that they are currently using the same spec of engines, the only difference being that they understand the package better during the season.

The fact that Mercedes saw a sudden increase in performance on the same British Grand Prix weekend that it brought its big upgrade lends credibility to its reasoning.

Schmidt touched Mercedes and said:

“Mercedes claims that the engines have been identical since the beginning of the season. Over the course of the season they only improved the handling a little.”

However, the improved speed of Mercedes-powered McLaren and Williams during this time also raises question marks, as Schmidt noted:

“Because Williams and McLaren have suddenly improved since the Hungarian GP, the suspicion is circulating that Mercedes generally simply releases more power for Saturday and Sunday and therefore pays for damage now. An engineer denies: Nothing has changed in the calibration of the motors. “

The difference in straight-ahead speed was evident during the battle between Hamilton and Sergio Perez at the Turkish GP, where the Mercedes had a significantly better straight-ahead speed than the Red Bull despite a higher downforce setup.

Whether all of these wins will be attributed to the major upgrade package brought in at the British Grand Prix is a matter for the FIA to decide. In the battle for supremacy, both teams reach the limits of their machines. Only time will tell how many of these gains were made through legitimate means.
