As part of the “innovation partnership” Adrian Newey, Chief Technical Officer of Red Bull Racing, and Marek Reichman, Chief Creative Officer of Aston Martin, are working together on the ‘AM-RB 001’ project, which uses the latest F1 technology with Aston Martin’s signature design is combined.
To celebrate the partnership, Red Bull Racing F1 cars will sport the iconic Aston Martin Wings logo throughout the 2016 season and make their debut in the Australian round this weekend at Melbourne’s Albert Park.
“This is a very exciting project for everyone at Red Bull Racing,” said team principal Christian Horner. “Through this innovation partnership, the iconic Aston Martin logo will return to Grand Prix racing for the first time since 1960, and Red Bull Advanced Technologies, led by Adrian, will use Formula 1 DNA to create the ultimate road car of all to produce.”
With an illustrious F1 career spanning nearly 30 years and designing ten cars that have won the world championship, the partnership represents a new challenge for Newey.
“I’ve had two goals in life since I was six – to be involved in the design of racing cars and to be involved in the design of a super car,” he said. “While the former ambition has shaped my career so far, the latter has always bubbled away, which has led to countless sketches and doodles over the years.
“The opportunity to develop and implement these ideas now in collaboration with Marek and his colleagues at Aston Martin is extremely exciting. This allows us to translate the technology we developed in Formula 1 into a new arena. “
Aston Martin’s only previous involvement in Formula 1 took place between 1959 and 1960 when, after great success in sports cars, they tried to switch to Grand Prix racing. However, their first two cars proved to be uncompetitive and after just five world championship starts they decided to focus again on sports car racing.
