Former Toro Rosso team manager Graham Watson has claimed that Max Verstappen is a lot more mature than most people think. Watson described the 24-year-old as a “special talent” who has “great self-confidence” in the car.
In an interview with Motorsport.com, Watson said:
“Max is not arrogant, but like his father he is bursting with self-confidence. In any case, even at this age I would never have thought: Oh my God, he will get back into our car and it will go hopelessly wrong. “” It is difficult to put into words what I was feeling, but from that moment on I knew Max would be something special. “
Max Verstappen was the youngest driver to start an F1 race when he made his debut for Scuderia Toro Rosso at the 2015 Australian Grand Prix, aged just 17.
In his rookie year, Verstappen finished fourth twice and scored 49 points – more than twice as many points as his team-mate Carlos Sainz Jr (18).
The following year, at the age of just 18, he was promoted to the Red Bull Racing Team. He then won the Spanish Grand Prix on his debut for the team in 2016, becoming the youngest driver to win an F1 race.
