Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen doesn’t believe that the momentum swings from team to team every weekend. The 24-year-old Dutchman gave a preview of the 2021 United States Grand Prix this weekend at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.
When Formula 1 returned to the US, his team’s press release quoted him as saying:
“It will be nice to be back in America. We’ve always been competitive in the US and we’ve got some good results, so now it’s time to turn it into a win. “
Reflecting on Red Bull Racing’s performance so far at the Circuit of the Americas, he added:
“We now go out on every track and know that we can now at least fight for a podium, but also for a win, and that is different than in previous years.”

Regarding his expectations for the weekend in Austin, the championship leaders said:
“We focus on doing our best and always trying to win the race and it won’t be any different in Austin. It’s going to be another close fight this weekend and I’m looking forward to it. “
With a double podium in Turkey – a track where rivals Mercedes were stronger – the momentum shifted in favor of Red Bull Racing. When asked in whose favor the momentum could turn out this weekend, Verstappen said:
“I don’t really believe in swing fluctuations, we always have to get to the heart of every aspect of the weekend in order to optimize our performance, prepare ourselves as well as possible and if we do that we cannot give anything more as a team. “
The Dutchman explained the challenges of the weekend with the words:
“We have a very competitive car, but you have to compare it to Mercedes, and that’s always the big question mark in every race this season. Hopefully we can fight them this weekend and keep the lead in the championship. Every week there are new challenges that we have to master and this one won’t be different, a lot can happen in a race, so we won’t focus on ourselves and on anyone. “
In a preview of the Circuit of the Americas track, the 24-year-old title contender said:
“The track layout at COTA is really cool, the bumpy surface, because it is built on a swamp, also adds to the excitement of the race.” I am very satisfied with P2⃣! It wasn’t easy to manage the tires throughout the race, but we maximized the result. Together with @SChecoPerez on the podium, crowns a good day for the team

To explain the circuit layout, Verstappen said:
“The first sector is a lot of fun, with lots of fast corners, especially in qualifying when you’re driving on little fuel. If you are racing in Sector 2 and at the beginning of Sector 3, you can take many different lines, so this route usually offers a lot of action and overtaking maneuvers. “
According to the Dutchman, who has already driven here five times, the fan atmosphere adds to the thrill of driving the COTA track. Red Bull Racing has been competitive on this track in the past.

A win at COTA could be a record for Verstappen, as the route has always been marked on the calendar as one of Lewis Hamilton’s most popular hunting grounds. Apart from the fact that the Briton has won five times here, the routing has often matched the driving style of the seven-time world champion and the sheer grunt of Mercedes.
