Mark Webber says his former Red Bull Racing F1 teammate Sebastian Vettel is “at a crossroads”.
Challenged by his new and younger teammate Charles Leclerc and under pressure from fans and media amid an ongoing string of mistakes and no wins in 2019, speculation about Vettel’s career is in full swing.
Webber, an Australian driver who had a strained relationship with Vettel while the German won four straight titles at Red Bull, is feeling a change in the 31-year-old. When asked about the Vettel retirement rumors, Webber said: “Anything is possible in Formula 1.
“It’s confusing because he often still seems hungry and aggressive. Then he’s relaxed again when he finishes second or third, and I wouldn’t expect him to be satisfied with it,” Webber told Austrian Servus TV. “He has to decide what he wants in the next few years. It really is a fine line to continue to be successful.
“He’s definitely at a crossroads in his career, mentally too,” added Webber. “Only Sebastian can answer that for himself. But one thing is certain, Ferrari has to improve too.”
