Carlos Sainz Jr is on pole position for the 2022 Formula 1 United States Grand Prix after a stunning late effort in qualifying.

If Red Bull win the race, they are the champions, with Ferrari needing to out-score them by 19 points to carry the fight to Mexico.
Lewis Hamilton starts third – with teammate George Russell making it an all-Mercedes second row.
