Max Verstappen believes there was nothing that could be improved in terms of the drama or entertainment value of the intense 2021 season. The newly crowned F1 champion found it to be a rare season that will not repeat itself in terms of entertainment value and thrills.
In an interview with former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard in an exclusive interview for carnext.com, Verstappen said:
“I don’t have to improve there. For me it doesn’t have to be that way every year. You can’t hold out that long in Formula 1, but of course I’m glad how it went. I think it was a great season, a lot of unpredictable things happened. “
The Dutchman’s hard-won first title saw twists and turns in a season that has become a rare piece of racing history. The unpredictability of the season terrified Verstappen, who had to fight a relentless fight for the world title.
Max Verstappen believes that a battle between teams is much more exciting than one team’s dominance in sport
It’s not the first time in the V6 hybrid era that Mercedes has been challenged by another team – they were challenged by Ferrari from 2017 to 2019. However, the battle between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen and their respective teams Mercedes and Red Bull is the closest match the Silver Arrows have faced.
The Dutchman explained the reason for the excitement this season:
“Of course the two teams fight against each other, that’s always exciting and not one team dominates, and basically only the two teammates fight.”
In the 2021 F1 season, Mercedes won its eighth record championship title in the constructors’ championship. However, the drivers’ standings, which have been dominated by Mercedes drivers for seven years since 2014, six of them by Hamilton, grabbed Max Verstappen.
