Honda is on the way out of Formula 1 as an engine supplier. They hope to go out with a bang this year. The engine from the Japanese manufacturer was called a “work of art” by Helmut Marko.

According to Alpha Tauri newbie Yuki Tsunoda, the Honda engine is showing significant gains compared to its previous iterations. When asked about the performance of the Honda engine, the young Japanese said:

“I think Honda has made a pretty good step compared to previous engines from previous years, especially on the performance side for the qualifying round. I can feel gains, especially in top speed, which is positive.”

Although there were some teething problems that the Japanese driver faced.

“On the other hand, there are also problems with shifting without a throttle valve and a bit of consistency.

However, the overall feedback for the engine has been positive.

“But it definitely brought us performance gains, so it was a really good, positive day for Honda.”

Honda’s ambitions to win the title in 2021

Koji Watanabe, Honda’s Chief Officer for Brand and Communications Operations, expressed the manufacturer’s ambition to win the title with Red Bull before pulling the curtain on his stay in Formula 1.

“It was frustrating that we couldn’t keep up with the top team,” said Watanabe.

“This is our final year in F1 and our goal is to win the championship. To do this, we have to be competitive from the first race and hope to achieve a high mileage in this test and make progress with both teams.

“As this will be Hondas last year in Formula 1, all of our employees at Sakura and Milton Keynes have been very motivated over the winter, determined to do well and be even more competitive, like everyone at Red Bull Racing Honda and Scuderia AlphaTauri Honda. “
