Max Verstappen will be looking to pass his record-setting number of race victories this season when he hits the track for Sunday’s running of the 2022 Brazilian Grand Prix as a heavy -190 favorite. Verstappen’s victory in Mexico City two weeks ago extended his current win streak to three races, and marked the 14th time he has taken home the checkered flag so far this season. The reigning F1 champion has also reached the podium in four of his past five appearances in Brazil, including a win in 2019.

Verstappen Enjoying Dream Season
It has been a dream season for Max Verstappen, who has already clinched a second straight F1 title after claiming victory in eight of the past nine races. The 24-year-old has already set F1 records with his 14 wins and 416 points, and has also emerged as a strong early favorite to once again defend his crown in 2023, sporting short -140 odds in the Formula 1 futures.
However, before shifting focus to next year, Verstappen is well positioned to extend his already insurmountable lead in the standings over the final two rounds of the season. And with the starting grid at this year’s Brazilian Grand Prix set to be decided by a qualifying sprint on Saturday afternoon, even more points are up for grabs.

Leclerc, Perez Continue Fight for Second Place
The extra points available in the qualifying sprint could be key to determining who wins the race for second place in this season’s F1 Drivers Standings. Heading into the final two races of the season, Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez maintains control of the No. 2 spot, five points up on Ferrari rival Charles Leclerc.

Perez also enjoys considerably more experience on the track at “Interlagos”, finishing in the points in each of his past five appearances, capped by a fourth-place drive a year ago. “Checo” has also outpaced Leclerc in three of the past four races, including a victory in Singapore. However, as a +900 bet to earn his third victory of the season, Perez sits well back of Leclerc, who trails only Verstappen with +500 odds to earn his first win since April.
Among the most intriguing dark horse to watch out for this weekend is Leclerc’s Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz Jr. Bounced from the race for second place after being forced to retire in both Japan and the United States, Sainz rebounding with a steady fifth-place performance in Mexico City. The 28-year-old Spaniard has also shown steady improvement on this track in his past two outings, and offers tons of value as a -120 bet to reach the podium.

The Battle for Jobs Begins
While the jousting at the top of the standings continues, there are several drivers looking to make a last push to secure jobs for next season as the scene shifts to Sao Paulo. Already ousted from his position at McLaren, Daniel Ricciardo is quickly running out of chances to showcase himself.

The 33-year-old Australian has endured a disastrous season, finishing in the points in just six of the first 17 races of the season, leaving him buried in 12th place in the Drivers Standings. Ricciardo is coming off an aggressive drive in Mexico City that wrapped up with a seventh-place finish. He has also cracked the top six in three of his past four appearances in Brazil, adding appeal to his -110 odds to crack the top ten this weekend.
There has also been plenty of speculation swirling around Mick Schumacher, and where he may land next season. The 23-year-old reportedly faces an uncertain future at Haas, and could help his own cause with a steady run at Interlagos. However, Schumacher’s recent results have been far from promising, with his 12th-place drive in Italy marking his best finish in nine races. And considering he stumbled to finish an 18th place at this race last year, it is tough to back the German as a +450 wager to make the points this weekend.
