The Imola Grand Prix had absolutely it all. Rain, spins, red flags and amazing bike-to-bike action between riders. After all, it was Red Bull’s Max Verstappen who took the checkered flag at the Imola Grand Prix and scored his first win of the season in 2021. It was a comfortable win for Max Verstappen, who controlled the race for the red flag and landed 22 seconds ahead of Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton.
The Imola Grand Prix got off to a wet start. However, Verstappen had a fantastic escape route from P3 and led the race at the end of the first lap. Since then, the Dutchman has never looked back. The race showed a red flag on lap 33 after George Russell collided with Valtteri Bottas while trying to overtake the Mercedes.
Verstappen was in full control after the restart. After defending himself against a fast Lando Norris, the Dutchman remained unchallenged and crossed for the checkered flag.
Lewis Hamilton came home second, but it wasn’t smooth sailing for the seven-time world champion. While trying to overtake Verstappen, Hamilton made an unusual mistake at Tosa that dropped him to P8.
The Imola Grand Prix also had an exciting end. Lando Norris valiantly defended himself against Hamilton and then Charles Leclerc to finish P3, giving McLaren the first podium in 2021.
