F1 News: “It’s not just about performance”

F1 World Champion Max Verstappen celebrates with his team at the Red Bull Racing Factory

Max Verstappen believes he owes his first championship to his Red Bull team and wants to stay with the team for a long time because he just feels like he can be himself and reach his maximum potential.

Last weekend, the Dutchman became the second Red Bull driver since Sebastian Vettel in 2013 to become the world champion in a controversial but glorious final lap at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

When asked if his team felt like family, Verstappen said:

“It feels that way because I think you heard it on my radio, too, after … Asked on the in-lap lap if I could stay another 10-15 years. I’m very happy where I am… And to be myself and that’s really important.”

He added:

“And it’s not just about Formula 1, we can have fun, we can have a good laugh and that’s important too. It’s not just about performance, you have to enjoy what you do.”

Max Verstappen emphasized that achieving results as a team is just as important as loving what you set out to do. He enjoyed being part of Red Bull because he was trusted from a very early stage in his career and given the freedom to push his limits, which eventually brought him a win this year.

“I’ve achieved everything in Formula 1” – Max Verstappen claims to finally be relaxed

Now that Max Verstappen’s “lifetime goal of becoming champion” has been achieved, the Red Bull driver once again claimed that the championship title will change nothing, although he certainly has some peace of mind.

On his approach to the rest of his F1 career he said:

“In the back of my mind, of course, it’s even more relaxing to know that I’ve achieved everything in Formula 1 and that everything that’s to come is just a bonus.”

Max Verstappen is enjoying his time as F1 World Champion and wants to defend the title next season.
