It is said that Max Verstappen’s falls during the 2021 Formula 1 season cost Red Bull almost 4 million euros.
The Dutch-Belgian driver crashed three times this year – at the Grand Prix of Great Britain and Italy and in qualifying for the opening race in Saudi Arabia.
Despite these mishaps, Verstappen was able to win his first world title in the last round of the season finale in Abu Dhabi this month.
As such, the 24-year-old’s falls and the resulting cost to Red Bull may be less of a concern than any other season.
According to Sky Deutschland, the Verstappen accidents cost the team a total of almost exactly 3.9 million euros – the third highest value among all drivers this year.
At the top of the list was Mick Schumacher from Haas, who allegedly cost his team 4.2 million euros, followed by Charles Leclerc from Ferrari with 4 million euros.
Valtteri Bottas from Mercedes finished fifth with 2.7 million euros, while his team-mate and runner-up Lewis Hamilton was 15th with 1.2 million euros.
Last place among the 20 drivers went to Alpine’s Esteban Ocon, who allegedly cost the team 280,000 euros.
