According to Formula 1 expert Sam Collins, Mercedes may have made a statement in their video about ramping up their 2022 engine. The Brackley-based team posted the video on their social media pages. The F1 tech expert believes the Silver Arrows in the video could have a message for their competitors.
Collins tweeted about the Mercedes video, saying:
“It’s early to make a little statement. I’m not sure if this fire occurred with a late ’21 spec PU or a very early ’22 spec unit (could be a bit of both depending on the battery shape). I wonder when they’re going to do the shakedown. ”This is early to make a little statement. The F1 expert said it was too early to say what the Mercedes engine would look like in the 2022 season. However, Collins believes Mercedes may have sent a message to their title rivals and competitors via the video. The team’s arch-rival Red Bull Racing had previously mentioned that Honda would have its 2022 engine ready before the end of the 2021 season.
Mercedes confirms in the social media video that they have fired their F1 engine from 2022
Sam Collins went on to talk about using Mercedes’ 2022 engine in the W13 car and tweeted that the team confirmed that the engine in the video was a new unit. If Mercedes kicked up their new 2022 engine in their social media video, according to the F1 expert, then that was actually a statement.
Confirming the 2022 ramp-up of the Mercedes engine, Collins said:
“I just heard from Mercedes that it is actually a 2022 spec PU that was used when firing. In this case a really serious statement. “A new era of @ F1 begins right here …

Starting up the new season engines is just a traditional statement made by most teams before the coming season. However, it is not an indicator of the quality of the engine.
The actual litmus test for an engine, regardless of the manufacturer, is the pre-season test. In the tests, the drivers put back a decent mileage and help the teams to collect data about the engines. This data in turn enables the teams to iron out problems before the start of the season.
