US Secretary of Defense says Britain’s ideas that could solve the Afghanistan crisis are “arrogant”
Defense Secretary Ben Wallace warned that it was “arrogant” to believe that Britain could unilaterally prevent Afghanistan from falling under the Taliban’s grip again.
As militants approached the capital, Kabul, it was reported that arrangements were being made to lift British Ambassador Sir Laurie Bristow out of the air by Monday evening.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) had intended Sir Laurie and a small team of officials to stay at the airport with other international diplomats.
However, the Sunday Telegraph reported that their departure was brought forward amid concerns that the airport could be overrun as the Taliban continue their lightning advance across the country. The FCDO declined to comment.

All 16 and 17 year olds in England will be offered their first Covid vaccination by August 23, according to a new target set by the Minister of Health.
Sajid Javid said Sunday that offering young people up to that date will allow teenagers in this age group the two weeks necessary to build maximum immunity before returning to school in September.
He said, “It is brilliant to see tens of thousands of young people have already received their vaccine – thank you for helping to keep building our defensive wall against Covid-19 across the country.”
Aston Martin unveils Valkyrie Spider
The Aston Martin Valkyrie Spider was unveiled, bringing a convertible driving experience to the company’s Formula 1-inspired hypercar.
Some revisions differentiate the Spider from the Coupe version to take into account the lack of a roof, such as an optimized carbon fiber structure and a recalibration of both the active aerodynamics and active suspension system.
The Valkyrie project is the result of a collaboration between Aston Martin and Red Bull Advanced Technologies, the technology arm of the Red Bull Racing F1 team.
