The Aston Martin Valkyrie Spider was unveiled, bringing a convertible driving experience to the company’s Formula 1-inspired hypercar.
Some revisions differentiate the Spider from the Coupe version to take into account the lack of a roof, such as an optimized carbon fiber structure and a recalibration of both the active aerodynamics and active suspension system.
The Valkyrie project is the result of a collaboration between Aston Martin and Red Bull Advanced Technologies, the technology arm of the Red Bull Racing F1 team.

As such, it features technology derived from Formula 1, including the aerodynamic system and low driving position.
The high downforce setup comes from the venturi tunnels that run either side of the cockpit floor and draw in huge amounts of air to feed the stern diffuser. This way, the Valkyrie does not need large wings that create air resistance on the upper body.
To make this a convertible, the Valkyrie gets a bespoke removable roof made from a carbon fiber panel paired with polycarbonate skylights. It can be removed by opening the doors and lifting it out.
Aston Martin modified the carbon fiber tub to accommodate the roof while tilting the doors forward.
The engine remains unchanged compared to the coupé, the hybrid V12 develops 1,138 hp. It’s capable of going over 205 mph with the roof down, or over 217 mph with it.
Adrian Newey, Chief Technical Officer of Red Bull Racing said, “From the very beginning of the Aston Martin Valkyrie project, we have been driven by ambitious goals that exceeded any road car to date, and the Valkyrie Spider brings the same ethos to the open cockpit . ”Hypercar category.

“What you see is a simple removable roof panel, but the challenge of staying true to the Valkyrie concept was far from. Maintaining the aerodynamic performance with the roof removed was of the utmost importance, as was reducing the inevitable weight gain to an absolute minimum while maximizing driving pleasure for the driver. “
Only 85 copies of the Valkyrie Spider will be made, with Aston Martin saying registrations have already been oversubscribed. Allocation will begin shortly, with first deliveries expected in the second half of 2022.
