Alex Albon avoids media speculation about the future of Red Bull F1

Alex Albon avoids media speculation about the future of Red Bull F1

Albon has been in the spotlight this season because he struggled to match teammate Max Verstappen’s pace in qualifying, even though his racing performances were usually impressive. In Mugello last weekend, he finally took his first podium with third place.

Meanwhile, Pierre Gasly, the man he replaced at Red Bull in mid-2019, has rebuilt his reputation with a strong season at AlphaTauri – highlighted by his win at the Italian GP.

Albon says he is not worried about negative speculations and that he trusts the support of team boss Christian Horner and Red Bull Motorsport boss Helmut Marko.

“I don’t look at the media,” he said. “I know it’s always talked about. It’s a hot topic for you guys. You just keep walking.

“My trust and confidence comes from conversations with Christian or whoever or with Dr. Marko personally. And I feel a lot of support from both of them, including this whole team.

“Of course I’m relaxed. I know I need to improve, I want to improve, and I am excited and I am motivated to do that.

“With all the support from the guys around me, I’m happy with where I am on the team and it’s more fair to say that the media is causing the noise.”

When asked when he stopped reading the media, he said, “It’s just one of those things. It’s like what’s the point of looking at your phone when it’s negative, you know?

“It doesn’t really make sense. I’d rather use that time to have dinner, go on Netflix, or whatever.

“It’s nice to have good comments, of course, but at the same time you just have to realize that it’s the name of the game. And there will always be talk, there will always be comments. And you could definitely say that more of that will happen this year.

“Ultimately, I know what matters in terms of my performance. That’s what I’ll focus on. I am not focused on the other things. “
