2019 Red Bull Racing F1 car unveiled, Honda engine ignites at Silverstone

2019 Red Bull Racing F1 car unveiled, Honda engine ignites at Silverstone

This year marks a big change for Red Bull Racing and its Formula 1 team: a switch to Honda engines. On Wednesday, the team unveiled the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing RB15, their racing car for the 2019 season.

The new car uses the red, blue, and yellow colors from the past to create a more sinister paint job in blue and black with bright red markings. The fans’ reaction to the new paintwork has been very positive so far.

Red Bull’s driver line-up has also changed. Pierre Gasly will join Max Verstappen in 2019. As you can see in the attached video, the couple visited Silverstone to start the Honda engine on the RB15 and test the car on the track.

The deal for Honda to power the Aston Martin RBR race car came after the team terminated its subcontracting deal with Renault. The team made the move official last June. Honda previously supplied engines to McLaren, but that partnership has deteriorated after numerous mechanical problems. Ironically, Renault will now supply McLaren engines. We don’t know a lot of details about the Honda engine, but it sounds excellent driving around the track, which can be heard in the video above.

Unlike Mercedes-AMG, which unveiled its latest F1 racing car on Thursday, RBR didn’t provide many details about the RB15’s design changes. However, all F1 racing cars this year will comply with new aerodynamic regulations. The change also means cars will have to weigh about 22 pounds more than last year, but we imagine RBR did a thorough analysis of their race car to pull weight from elsewhere and reinvest it in new aero gear.

The RB15 will line up with Verstappen and Gasly at the wheel when the 2019 F1 season kicks off at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 17th.
