GARDNER CONFIRMS TECH3 KTM FACTORY RACING MOTOGP SADDLE FOR 2022

MotoGP news 2021

Grand Prix winner Moto2 star Remy Gardner will move up to the MotoGP class next season and drive one of the Tech3 KTM Factory Racing RC16s as he continues his upward trend at world championship level.

Gardner, the current Moto2 championship leader, Italian Grand Prix winner and owner of five podiums in six events this season as part of Aki Ajo’s Red Bull KTM Ajo team, has signed a deal for his MotoGP debut next year and takes the final step up the KTM GP Academy’s career ladder by joining his former team.

The 23-year-old’s potential became clear through training that included one semester in Moto3 and five in Moto2. He was eventually caught by KTM to round out advanced stages of his development under Ajo’s watchful eye and in the crew that drove two Red Bull KTM Factory Racing athletes – Brad Binder and Miguel Oliveira – to triumph in MotoGP.

Remy made his GP debut in San Marino in 2014. He stood on the Moto2 podium for the first time at the Argentine Grand Prix in 2019 and has become one of the main protagonists of the division. After his success in Mugello last weekend, he now holds two Moto2 winners’ trophies and leads the overall standings by six points.

Gardner will be cheering the Tech3 KTM RC16 for the first round of the 2022 season, almost three decades after his father Wayne retired from the premier class of Grand Prix racing in 1992.

Remy Gardener: “I am very happy that KTM gave me this opportunity. It’s a dream for me and what we’ve been working for up to now. It’s an amazing opportunity for me and I can’t wait to ride my bike. I just want to thank KTM for believing in me. Right now we have to focus heavily on getting ready in 2021. I also want to thank everyone who helped me achieve MotoGP. We’re just getting started. “

Pit Beirer, KTM Motorsport Director: “It is a great pleasure for us to bring Remy into MotoGP next season because we knew about his speed and his abilities for Moto2 and he has confirmed this potential. We believe there is much more to be expected from him and it is important that he has the opportunity to keep growing. Remy is a typical racing driver. He is super determined and never gives up. He is exciting to watch and we look forward to working with him on this next step. Here, too, we show again that the KTM GP Academy offers riders who want to go all the way the right opportunity. “

Hervé Poncharal, Team Principal Tech3 KTM Factory Racing: “We are very proud, happy and confident to welcome Remy. We believe he will be a great addition to the KTM MotoGP line-up and I think this decision will now help Remy focus 100% on his Moto2 World Championship and it will also help us, Tech3 KTM Factory Racing Team, help to concentrate in our 2021 season. So, welcome back Remy, keep putting the pressure on and come to us for your MotoGP adventure in 2022! “
