Logan Cunnison Crashes Aprilia RS660 Seconds After Vossberg in Chaotic MotoAmerica Twins Cup Restart

Logan Cunnison and Hank Vossberg both crashed their Aprilia RS 660 motorcycles seconds apart at the start of MotoAmerica Twins Cup Race 2 on Saturday at Road America. Officials said Vossberg highsided in turn 4, and Cunnison’s crash left his bike in a hazardous position, prompting a red flag and shortening the race to five laps.

Hank Vossberg of Robem Engineering was able to remount his damaged Aprilia RS 660 with assistance from his crew following a highside crash in turn 4 at the start of MotoAmerica Twins Cup Race 2 on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia. Seconds after Vossberg’s incident, Logan Cunnison of Speed Demon Racing Powered by Ready to Ride also crashed his Aprilia RS 660, leaving his motorcycle stranded in a hazardous position on the track. Officials said Cunnison’s bike placement prompted a red flag and forced race control to shorten the originally scheduled eight-lap race to five laps.

Vossberg recorded a fastest lap time of 1:34.060, trailing Chapin’s pace by 0.177 seconds, according to lap timing data from MotoAmerica.

The red flag allowed Vossberg, who was physically shaken but uninjured, to return to the grid for the restart after repairs to his bike, according to MotoAmerica officials and a Piaggio Group press release dated April 22, 2026. Cunnison, however, was unable to rejoin the shortened race due to the severity of his crash and the time required to clear his bike from the course. Sources confirmed that no injuries were reported for Cunnison, with the focus remaining on the safety hazard his bike posed.

With Vossberg back on the grid, the five-lap restart saw M4 ECSTAR Suzuki’s Matthew Chapin lead every lap aboard his GSX-8R, winning by a margin of 2.6 seconds. Vossberg maintained second place throughout the race, finishing 0.944 seconds ahead of the third-place rider, whose identity was not specified in official reports.

Vossberg’s performance extended his championship lead to 86 points, increasing his advantage over the nearest rival by 23 points following the Road Atlanta round, which took place April 17-19, 2026. He had secured victory in Race 1 earlier on Saturday, starting from second on the grid and setting the fastest lap of 1:33.424. Cunnison, meanwhile, had qualified third for Race 2, 0.329 seconds behind the leader, and had finished third in Race 1 after advancing from fourth on the grid, marking a strong showing for Speed Demon Racing’s Aprilia team.

Throughout the weekend, multiple Aprilia RS 660 motorcycles featured prominently, with at least three appearing in the top 10 of every session from Friday onward. Both Vossberg and Cunnison competed on Aprilia RS 660 machines during the Twins Cup Race 2 incident, highlighting the brand’s competitiveness in the series. The official Aprilia statement acknowledged Vossberg’s resilience in overcoming his early crash to secure critical championship points, while also noting Cunnison’s podium finish in Race 1 as a notable team achievement.

The red flag and subsequent race shortening were confirmed by MotoAmerica reports, which cited the hazardous position of Cunnison’s bike as the primary safety concern. Vossberg was described by Cycle News as “bruised but determined,” limping to the podium after the race. The Road Atlanta round marked the third event of the 2026 MotoAmerica Twins Cup season, with riders and teams preparing to continue the championship at upcoming rounds later in the spring.
