Wolff hopes "Little Lion" Russell will sit in a top F1 car next season amid Mercedes rumors

As David Coulthard said in a post-race interview: “It was one of the greatest qualifying sessions in Formula 1 history. And it really was. Times flew by and the cars sped across the track. Regardless, it was George Russell who stole the spotlight. The Brit caught the attention of all viewers as he sped through an empty track in the third quarter. He painted a beautiful picture; Maneuver the chicanes and dash through the straights. It was an unforgettable sight when he finished P8 on his home track.

Mr. Saturday proved himself again when he pushed the Williams to its absolute limit at Silverstone. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff paid tribute to the young top performer. “It’s a feast for the eyes to watch George. It’s in the top 10 and almost beats the McLaren. That shows his incredible talent. A little lion in the car. ”

Was the roar of the “little lion” loud enough for a place near the Silver Arrows? When asked if Russell deserves a place in a top car next season, Wolff replied, “Yes, let’s hope so.” The interviewer pushed a little more. “No news?” “No.” Wolff’s silence in second place, supported by Russell’s brilliant qualifying, only leaves room for the imagination.

A perfect day at Silverstone for Russell

George Russell started his afternoon on the racetrack with a terrifying end to his free practice session. He was the slowest on the grid and was at the bottom on P20. Hence the following session seemed daunting.

A broken mirror on the Williams on the final lap gave everyone hope that Russell wouldn’t be unlucky in qualifying. Russell found happiness in the 90,000 fans who roared for him as he hit the track for Q1. Russell prevailed with a breathtaking P8 and made it into Q2 again.

It has become a familiar place for Russell for his seventh appearance in the second quarter. After finishing seventh, Russell broke his familiarity and made it into Q3. The celebrations were temporary as everyone was focused on seeing where they would place for the sprint.

What a feeling … your support was different today!
