Williams’ George Russell has been heavily tipped to replace the Finn alongside seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton.

Bottas experienced another difficult race at the Hungaroring, crashing into Lando Norris’ back on the first lap at Turn 1 and knocking the McLaren driver into Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen.

Bottas, Norris and Perez were then forced to retire, while Verstappen continued with significant damage to his car.

For the Belgian Grand Prix taking place at the end of August, Commissioners Bottas imposed a starting penalty of five places.

Looking back on the first lap in Hungary, Wolff said: “No, the mistake was regrettable with major consequences. He was pinched by the two cars in front, lost all downforce and then it was too late, and that doesn’t influence the decision at all. “

In terms of Botta’s options for 2022, Williams or Alfa Romeo seem like his best choices.

Bottas stated that staying in F1 is his top priority.

“I always try to think positively,” added Bottas. “I know what I want, I want to stay on the team, I think this is the best chance for me to win races next year and fight for the title. If for some reason I wasn’t there, I would look for other options in Formula 1 because I love Formula 1, I enjoy it and I think I have a few good years to go here.

“And then never say never. Rally? I don’t know, I really enjoyed it, I had a lot of fun every time I was in a rally car, I always had a smile, it was a lot of fun, but making a job of it could be pretty difficult because the guys there are pretty competitive.

“But never never say anything about anything like I said, but first and foremost I concentrate fully on F1.”
