Lewis Hamilton is one of those drivers who stand for several social issues. The seven-time world champion has met many inspirational personalities, one of them being the great Nelson Mandela. Skysports F1 shared a clip in which the Brit is seen recalling his meeting with the first president of South Africa.

Sky Sports shared an overwhelming clip of the star Mercedes driver, where he was describing his meeting with Nelson Mandela. The great president of South Africa fought against discrimination. His contribution to end country’s apartheid system of racial segregation is one of the most inspiring work.

His work has inspired millions, including Sir Lewis Hamilton. Now, to mark the occasion of Black history month, the seven times world champion shares a touching message as he speaks about his hero, Nelson Mandela. He said, “ I remember my dad calling me and telling that we have been invited, this is like 2008, it was his 90th birthday and I had no idea that I’ll be going to get the chance to meet the guy.”

The Mercedes driver explained how the aura and vibe was around the president and said, “I have never met anyone with this aura that he had, this supernatural aura around him with his big beautiful smile. He further added on getting the advice that stuck to him, “I remember to ask him what’s the biggest advice. He said I am 90 years old but am still learning every single day, even to this point. He’s like the biggest hero.” said Hamilton

Facing all the issues since childhood, it must really be a pleasure for the Mercedes star to become a hero to the people. Earlier this year Hamilton was chosen to be a hero for black history month.

Lewis Hamilton has achieved so much in his entire career. The boy from Stevenage has seen all the struggles in his life. The seven time world champion has been vocal on many instances of racial equality and several human rights. 37 year old is the only black driver to achieve such great heights in the sport, who would have been any better than him to be picked up as the hero

The F1 star told to Sky Sports F1 pundit Naomi Schiff when chosen as a hero for Black History Month. He said, “That’s the first time I’ve heard that, and the realization that you can be a part of it, but I think everyone’s a part of it.”

During his days at school this month wasn’t acknowledged much, to which the Brit said, “It is a great month. When I was at school, we never ever celebrated it and we never did any history work on it but knowing my family knew about it and being educated at home about certain individuals.”
