Why F1 requires sustainability

Why sustainability is being mandated by F1

While the focus of the press release, issued after the F1 commission meeting in February, was on the still-flowing 2021 calendar and the first outlines of the engine and chassis in 2025, it also made a harmless, yet extremely important, sustainability statement.

At this meeting, the FIA announced that Formula 1 as an organization as well as the McLaren and Mercedes F1 teams and three racetracks (Paul Ricard, Barcelona and Mugello) have received three-star environmental accreditation according to FIA standards . This is the highest level of environmental accreditation in motorsport and follows the guidelines of ISO 14001 and EMAS, the EU environmental management and audit system.
