With the 2021 F1 Championship heading for a nerve-wracking finish, the final two Grands Prix of the year promise the ultimate battlegrounds for Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. The two men are only eight points apart in the drivers’ standings after Hamilton won two consecutive races in Brazil and Qatar to make up the gap on Verstappen.
Of the 20 races that have been played this season so far, defending champion Hamilton has won a total of seven, while first-time title contender Verstappen has nine. In the competitive championship of the turbo-hybrid era, every point gained or lost between the two drivers is decisive, as the championship can be won or lost by one point.
In the 2021 season, the 24-year-old Max Verstappen has the measure of the reigning world champion Hamilton for the first time. All of the drama and controversy that has followed the two drivers and teams is just further evidence of how hotly contested the title was in 2021.
As intense as the battle between the two drivers may seem, both teams have a separate battle for the winner of the coveted constructors’ championship.

Mercedes and Red Bull F1 both give everything and even use their respective second drivers, Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez, as best they can: from rear gunner to “stealing” the point for the fastest lap. Mercedes currently leads the team from Milton Keynes by just five points.
Elsewhere, well below the top two, Ferrari has a commanding 40-point lead over McLaren and is third in the constructors’ championship after the Woking team suffered a number of DNFs recently.
Max Verstappen can end F1 title fight at the Grand Prix of Saudi Arabia
Despite a convincing comeback from Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes in the second half of the season, Verstappen has the potential to end the ongoing battle at the brand new Saudi Arabia Grand Prix early next month.
If the Dutchman creates a deficit of over 26 points (the maximum number of points that can be scored in a race) after hoisting the checkered flag in Jeddah, he will become world champion as Hamilton can no longer make up the difference at the season finale in Abu Dhabi.

This will not be the first time that an F1 World Championship fight has taken place, as the 2016 season offers a thrill in the final race between Hamilton and his then Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg.

The closest Formula 1 season to date was 1984, in which Niki Lauda battled McLaren team-mate Alain Prost to claim his third title in the sport. Lauda’s triumph was largely due to his consistency this season. The two drivers were tied with five wins each. However, Lauda only crossed the finish line once outside of the top 2 throughout the year. He was able to win the title with an excruciatingly narrow margin of only half a point against the French.
