Lewis Hamilton had a lot to celebrate in 2021. Despite the defeat in the drivers’ world championship to Max Verstappen, the Briton still had an exceptional season.
Hamilton can now start the new year with celebrations. The seven-time world champion celebrates his birthday on January 7th.
Lewis Hamilton was born in Stevenage in 1985 to Anthony Hamilton and Carmen Larbalestier. The Briton will be 37 years old next year before the 2022 season.
With Kimi Raikkonen now retired, Hamilton is the second oldest active driver on the F1 grid after 40-year-old Fernando Alonso.
The Briton began his motorsport career in 1993 with karting. Anthony Hamilton had seen his son drive remote-controlled cars before.
Lewis Hamilton then rose to the ranks of Formula 3 and Formula Renault before graduating to the GP2 series under the watchful eye of McLaren CEO Ron Dennis.
With a string of victories under his belt, Hamilton moved to McLaren in Formula 1 in 2007 and never looked back. The Briton was just one point away from winning the Drivers ‘Championship in his debut season with Ron Dennis’ side.
Hamilton won his first title the following season. With a final lap pass in Interlagos, Timo Glock was crowned world champion as the first British driver since Damon Hill in 1996.
This was followed by six more titles, all with Mercedes, during an era of unmatched dominance.
Hamilton was on the brink of a record-breaking eighth world championship in Abu Dhabi before losing to Max Verstappen.
The Briton’s current contract with Mercedes runs until the end of 2023. His pursuit of another title and Michael Schumacher’s record of seven could go on.
Lewis Hamilton is the victim of a rigged finale, claims Lord Peter Hain
Lewis Hamilton’s loss to Max Verstappen at the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was viewed as controversial by many of the Brit’s fans. The seven-time champion is now supported by Lord Peter Hain from England.
Hain is a member of the House of Lords in the British Parliament. He was also a Labor Party official all his life.
Speaking to express.co.uk, Hain said of Hamilton’s disappointment in the last round:
“The target was effectively manipulated by the stewards to produce a dramatic finale for the theater rather than a race result.”
