Remember Lewis Hamilton winning the Canadian Grand Prix from pole in 2010? It wasn’t quite straightforward as the then McLaren driver was handed the race win when Red Bull’s Mark Webber suffered a gearbox issue. While the drive may have been memorable, what happened after qualifying was unique.

The seven-time world champion’s qualifying was late in Q3. As soon as he completed his flying lap, he was on pole as the crowd cheered on. This lap was even referred to as very Ayrton Senna-like. Now, in a new video from his qualification day, we can see post-pole Hamilton removing the steering wheel from his car as it went on.

Apparently, the Britisher ran out of fuel and even jumped out of the car to push it. However, he didn’t do it before patting the car and sitting for a few minutes while reflecting on his pole.

These issues didn’t trouble Hamilton on race day as he didn’t stop on the lap after the flag.

Though Red Bull arguably had a better car that season, the duo of Jenson Button-Lewis Hamilton played it smart. Today Hamilton again stood in a similar situation, and might just turn it around as he did a dozen years ago.

Can Lewis Hamilton secure the Canadian GP win in 2022?

Hamilton’s W13 has been a painful ride for him. Right after the Baku race, the 37-year-old was suffering from extreme discomfort and took minutes to come out of his car. Team boss Toto Wolff even put Hamilton’s Canadian race up for doubt after his physical discomfort. Above all this, many believe the circuit might not even favor Mercedes this season.

The team is suffering from extreme porpoising and is very slow compared to its rivals. While they have been working hard to make the car faster, it is barely even driveable. Their strategy will matter a lot in the crucial round 9. So, can this become Hamilton’s race just like 2010, despite him not having the fastest car again?
